biomass much more polluting than gas and coal netherlands | Breaking News

The billions of subsidies for biomass power plants are wasted money. The power stations, which often burn wood, produce even more CO2 than coal or gas power stations. That is the conclusion of a group of European scientists. Within a few years, 628 biomass installations will be installed in the Netherlands that are often fired on wood. The government has already provided the dizzying amount of 11.4 billion euros in subsidies for this, according to a Dutch newspaper the AD.

Biomass And The Environment

Biomass is stimulated in order to be able to stop gas extraction in the north faster. It would also be much better for the environment. The scientists from the authoritative organization EASAC now write that biomass is ‘a very bad energy source’. ‘It is a delusion that the burning of biomass in these enormous quantities is slow’.

Biomass Plants

There will be a power plant near Diemen where 18,000 football fields of forest must be fired every year. The scientists say that new forest can never be planted quickly enough to compensate for that. To speed things up, a lot of biomass plants must also be built in cities in the coming years. This concerns central pellet stoves (pressed wood) in apartment complexes.

The Long Fund fears many complaints from local residents.

Bizarre And Incorrect

The scientists find the tens of billions spent throughout Europe on biomass wasted money. The money can be better invested in the development of energy from hydrogen, they write. Energy company RWE, which receives 2.6 billion in our country to "green" with biomass, calls scientists' criticism "bizarre" and "incorrect."
