Energy Energy Storage

Max Bögl Wind is nearing completion of a wind farm in Germany that will be combined with a pumped storage hydro scheme.

The project, which is expected to be finished in October, consists of four GE 3.4MW turbines with hub heights of up to 178 metres.

The water is stored in the turbines’ concrete foundations and is connected to a hydro plant 200 metres lower down the valley, the company said.
“This creates a natural energy storage facility based on water, known as the water battery,” it added.

Max Bögl Wind will provide further information on the project at the Husum Wind 2017 conference and trade fair next month.

Husum Wind will take place between 12 and 15 September hosting over 650 exhibitors from the onshore and offshore wind industry.
